  • Complete Reporting Using the ANALYZE, DISPLAY, and QUERY commands, you are able to view detail information for one or more devices, display the contents of any portion of a particular device, or look at summary data for one or more devices. Using the ANALYZE command, you may produce:

    • An analysis report of the specified pack or packs.
    • A "pooled" analysis report on a group of devices.
    • A VSAM dataset listing.

The individual device and pooled analysis reports recognize and report on:

    • System files and libraries
    • Expired and Data Secured datasets,
    • Alternate tracks
    • Free spaces
    • Track utilization and Blocking efficiency
    • Poorly used or wasted space, and many other items.

The VSAM report displays information from one or more catalogs.

  • Savings on Your Valuable Disk Space The DELETE command allows you to quickly delete all, selected or expired files. With the TRUNCATE command you can free the unused space at then end of a SAM or ISAM datasets or the VTOC.

  • VTOC Alteration and Recovery With the VSERV/VSE CREATE command you may move a VTOC, change a VTOC or re-create a destroyed VTOC. In addition, you may alter/add information relating to a device or to a particular file or group of files with the UPDATE and RENAME commands.

  • Dynamic Dataset Allocation The ALLOCATE command supplies the user with the ability to allocate files quickly and with a minimum of information. You may use this command to allocate a dataset either dynamically, without specifying the exact extents, or to an exact location on the device.

  • Device Initialization Using the INIT command, VSERV/VSE provides support for fast initialization of DASD devices, creating a new volume label and VTOC.

  • Complete Security VSERV/VSE may be tailored, during installation, so that selected commands require passwords to function. Commands may even be completely disabled.
